Referrals System in place

I've added a referrals system to the forum for all members. You just give people a link to the forum registration page. You must use a link that contains your referral ID. You can find this link in your profile.

You can get to your profile by clicking your username on one of your posts. Alternatively, if you are logged in and on the forum index page, you can also click your username on the list of online users.

There will be prizes for the most referrals. It will probably be similar to the prize draw for each message you post but this time it would be for the number of referrals.

The first prize draw will count all referrals but from then on it will be at regular intervals (maybe weekly).

I'll credit the referrals but it's strange they don't show up, because I tested the referrals system and it worked. Maybe the people referred went to other parts of the site first and then registered, instead of registering right away from the link.

FairCasinos Edit: Although it still happens with a few links, I mostly fixed the problem of the referral ID disappearing when people browse other parts of the forum before signing up.

chessa's referral worked just now so I think the problem is when they go to other parts of the forum first. I will add the people it didn't work on to the referrals database soon.

The referral competition draw is going to be postponed for a while because there are only two people entered for it (catrescue911, you would have an 85% chance of winning but I think I should postpone it until more people are entered).

I still have a prize draw for posting but it will start again next week (all posts since the last draw count for the next one). I will have a points system installed by then which show the number of entries for the draw. This is reset after each draw and you can gain points by more than just posting (you can even gamble them in a slot machine in the forum). More details later.

I can't really have a prize draw with two people entered. I will have the draw for this eventually as a one time thing but there have been no new referrers.

I still have to update the prize draw token amounts for people with posts since before the new prize draw started. There was a period of a few weeks when posts weren't credited.

Referrers and Referrals get Prize Draw Tokens now:

I will give you 10 prize draw tokens for each new member you refer to the forum and 5 will go to the referral too. I will update all the token values for the current referrers and referrals before the next daily prize draw starts again in a few weeks. The tokens for referrals will be given manually for now until I automate it.

Remember, your profile page has the link you need to refer someone. Click your name in the 'who's online' list in the forum index to easily get to your profile.

In the future, the number of referrals you have will also contribute to the prize draw tokens in some way (not just entries for each referral). One method would be to boost your prize draw tokens by a given percentage (based on your number of referrals) when you go to buy tickets. So if your boost percentage was 50%, you will get bonus entries of an extra 50% of the tickets you bought (rounded down). So if you were going to buy 10 tickets, you would get an extra 5 each time. Maybe the boost could go up to 200% for more than 20 referrals.

Just a note to say that I've finally automated the referrals points system. It didn't take me very long and I should have done it earlier but it wasn't important because referrals don't usually happen very often so it wasn't a problem adding the points manually.

I've made it so that referred users (i.e. referrals) are credited the 5 Prize Draw Tokens and the referrer receives 10 Prize Draw Tokens as soon as the referred user activates their account by clicking the activation link in their email they receive when they join. They don't even have to log in.

When referrals activate their account it will also increment the 'Referrals' count in the referrer's profile. I've changed the 'Top Referrers' list to only show activated referrals (before it also showed referrals that weren't activated).

Your profile also shows the Total Referrals near the bottom right which may be greater than the activated referrals as it also includes the non-activated ones (you can use this to check that a referral worked before they activate their account).

I wrote this topic at the time when you received a Prize Draw Token for each post and there weren't any other ways of getting them! At the moment there are quite a few ways. I still have to implement the boosting of the Prize Draw Tokens entered into the draw depending on the number of referrals you have (as explained in the previous post).

There will still be a one-off prize draw of $500 for the referrers at some point. The more referrals you have, the more chance there is of winning it.
