PostPosted: Thu Feb 20, 2003 11:28 pm - Payout Percentage 'audits' are useless!
_____________________________________________________________
Payout percentages audited by a respected third party are a bit misleading and quite meaningless.

For example, Microgaming's Blackjack (single-deck) should average nearly 99.9% in a fair game in all their casinos if played properly. This isn't the average figure though because many players play their own way which lowers the average by quite a bit. The actual payout percentage the audit reports on would vary from month to month purely due to the random nature of luck. If the payout from one Microgaming casino is low one month it doesn't mean you are less or more likely to win there the next month! The odds would be the same in all of them because all equivalent games have the same odds in a fair casino.

Payout percentages are an attempt to reassure players but they must realise that the gameplay logs (submitted to the auditors who calculate the percentage) may have been fabricated to some degree. It's misleading to say that the audits prove fairness (which some casinos seem to imply).

TheWizardofOdds (aka Michael Shackleford) offers this kind of audit service but I don't think it's a good idea.

This was one of the first topics in the forum and WizardOfOdds auditing has now been shown to have been useless in a pretty catastrophic way.

He offers Seals which apparently certify fairness for a certain type of casino software but it has now been shown that they cheat on the doubling feature in Video Poker for a whole casino group (English Harbour) although other casinos using the software seem fair (so the fairness of the doubling can be manipulated for each casino operator with this software type).

The WizardofOdds will probably be embarrassed that his 'Certified Fair Gaming' seal has been shown to be useless but it is clear to see that these seals of approval are just there to try and mislead the public and can't provide any real reassurance of fairness. I made my position clear before that it was a terribly unethical idea for WizardofOdds to offer this service but it was probably quite lucrative for him.

If Micheal made some do$h for that - good luck to him!
He deserves every penny he gets for the fantastic information on his site.
EH said it was a 'bug' - who can prove if they're lying or not?

I don't take any notice of any 'seals of approval' - I just play the games & make up my own mind if it's fair or not. In this respect I agree with you - seals, approvals, audits & the like are not worth the paper they're written on!

i have to agree, i have been playing 1 micro and 1 rtg for 1 month solid and in my gaming sessions i see no 97% or anything close to that infact i noticed a change in game play depending on the deposits, i could deposit $25 gone in 5 minutes deposit again lasts 10 minutes - neither of the deposits got over the deposit amount repeatedly, then i would deposit again and that deposit would hit for a few minutes usually adding $10 above my deposit then bottom out again. I couldnt understand how so many (there were many more deposits) deposits could do the same thing, i didnt see anything remotely random but if i were to complain i would get pointed to the RNG details and fairness seals lol, i figure i wouldnt be able to prove that its not playing properly and id make my self crazy trying even when i have been winning ive thought wtf that aint right thats not random lol, I hope Im making sense and someone understands me
