Poker Tournaments
Poker.com has three main types of tournaments, each are explained in full on this page.
http://www.pokercs.com/_760a6ecd645...373d858df4117f/
Freeroll Tournaments
A freeroll tournament is generally a multitable tournament with more than 10 players. Freeroll means that there are no buy-in or entry fees to play in the tournament. Some of the Poker.com freerolls have entry requirements which must be met before free entry is granted, you can find out more below by clicking in the "requirements" column.

Our current freeroll schedule includes at least one $200 freeroll every 3 hours!

Current DAILY Freeroll Schedule (Starting 1AM EST, MAY 25)

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

Guaranteed Tournaments
Guaranteed Tournaments are generally multitable tournaments with more than 10 players. Guaranteed means that there is a Guaranteed prize pool, no matter how many entrants are in the tournament. Guaranteed tournaments have a buy-in and entry fee. Usually the prize pool is Guaranteed above the maximum number of players in the tournament, this ensures bigger prizes even if there are only a few tables competing.

Some Guaranteed tournaments have "rebuys" and "add-ons", noted as an R/A tournament. This means that if you bust out (lose all of your chips) you can "re-buy" into the tournament and continue to play (same as the original buy-in amount). An add-on is usually offered at the first break, in which the re-buy period ends. Add-ons give those who are short stacked a chance to "top up" thier chips (generally the same as the original buy-in amount). Some tournaments have "double add-on" which will give you twice as many chips as the starting chip count, but for the same cost of an original buy-in.

Current Daily Guaranteed Tournament Schedule (starting late May)

Time Amount Buy In/Fee Min/Max Players Rebuys Add On
Daily $250 Guaranteed $1 + .10c 30/300 Yes At Break
Daily $300 Supersonic $3 + .30c 30/300 Yes At Break

Great INFO for the New Player to look at & learn the game
http://www.pokercs.com/_760a6ecd645...373d858df4117f/
A simple Hold'em Poker Guide
Holdem Poker is a form of community poker with blind bets instead of betting antes. The most popular holdem poker game from which every other holdem game is derived, is Texas Hold'Em Poker.

Holdem games have designated betting limits, which include minimum and maximum bets, pot limit betting and no limit games.

Limit In a $1/$2 limit game, all bets and raises are $1 dollars in the preflop and flop betting rounds, and then $2 bets and raises in the turn and river betting rounds.
Pot Limit is a betting structure where the maximum size bet is the size of the pot plus the amount you would bet if you reraised (if you have already been raised).
No Limit is a betting structure with no maximum bet. Players may bet as many chips at any time, at any time they can declare themselves "All In" and bet all of their chips on a hand.
In holdem games, players pay blinds rather than betting an ante to create a pot before any cards are dealt. The blinds are paid in turns, moving around the table with each hand. This is to ensure there is always money in the pot.
http://www.pokercs.com/_760a6ecd645...373d858df4117f/
Blinds are paid by the two players to the left of the dealer. In a casino, where there is a dedicated dealer, the dealer position moves around the table and is indicated by a "dealer button". The blinds are paid by the two players to the left of the dealer button.

The two blinds are called the "small blind" and the "big blind". When the small blind figure is set, the big blind is usually double the amount of the small blind. The minimum bet per hand is double the small blind (usually equal to the big blind).

When you are introduced to any game, these above conditions will usually be explained in the game type. For example, a "No Limit $200 ($1/$2)" game would be a game with no betting limits, a maximum buy-in of $200 and starting blinds of $1 and $2. The blinds are often abbreviated SB (small blind) and BB (big blind).

Prior to seeing their cards, the player directly to the left of the dealer puts the small blind into the pot and the player to the left of the small blind puts the big blind bet into the pot.
http://www.pokercs.com/_760a6ecd645...373d858df4117f/
The player to the left of the big blind is the first player to actually see his hand before deciding to call the blinds or not, in poker this position is sometimes referred to as "under the gun" as you have to make the first decision of the hand.

The action goes around the table to the left of the dealer/blinds and each player can call the bet, raise or fold their hand. Unlike an ante, the blinds are considered a real money bet, so the players who paid the blind bets are already involved in the hand, so to call, they only need to match any further raises before them.

After the first betting round, three of the five community cards are turned face up in the middle of the table, in poker this is called "the flop".

After the flop, there is another round of betting starting from the player to the left of the dealer, there are no blinds paid in the other betting rounds and the dealer is the last player to call the action on the other rounds of betting.

After the second round of bets, a fourth card is turned face up in the middle of the table, this is called the "turn" card, sometimes also referred to as "fourth street".
http://www.pokercs.com/_760a6ecd645...373d858df4117f/
Another betting round follows, then a fifth community card is drawn, in holdem poker, we call this the "River" card.

A final round of checks, folds, calls and raises follow, this final betting round leads to the showdown, where players turn over the cards to decide a winner.

Players reveal their hand from the player left of the dealer around to the left. If you know you are beaten by any player who reveals their cards before you, you can "muck" your hand, which means you throw it away without showing what you lost with.

Come put your Poker Face on & show the pros you know your stuff.
Good Luck

Poker Hands
http://www.pokercs.com/_760a6ecd645...373d858df4117f/
Winning Poker Hands, Texas Hold'em Poker Hand Ranks
When playing poker, sometimes the most frustrating part of the game is figuring out which hand outranks another at the poker table. Poker.com has placed the ranking of poker hands in a easy to read layout that is suitable for printing so that you are never wondering who is the winner of any poker hand at the table. We have included an illustrated example of each hand. The list is in order from strongest to weakest.

NEW! Download the Poker.com Winning Poker Hands PDF document. The file is perfect for printing and you can refer to it at your home game. You may also need Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Royal Flush: Five card sequence, from 10 to the Ace in the same suit. (eg. 10,J,Q,K,A) A royal flush is a combination of a flush and a straight ending in the Ace high card. So all the cards are of the same suit, consecutive and have the Ace high card.

Straight Flush: Any five card sequence in the same suit. (eg. 8,9,10,J,Q and A, 2,3,4,5 of same suit).
A straight flush is a combination of a flush and a straight. So all the cards are of the same suit, and all are consecutive. Ranking between straights is determined by the value of the high end of the straight. A royal flush is a straight flush that has a high card value of an Ace.

Four of a Kind: All four cards of the same index (eg. K,K,K,K).
Four cards of the same value such as four jacks or four 7's represent the second strongest poker hand. This hand beats everything except a Straight Flush.
http://www.pokercs.com/_760a6ecd645...373d858df4117f/
Full House: Three of a kind combined with a pair (eg. A,A,A,5,5).
A full house is a combination of three of a kind and a pair. Meaning all five of your cards are a part of a set of either two or three of the same card value (eg. three 7's and two Kings). Ties on a full house are broken by the three of a kind, as you cannot have two equal sets of three of a kind in any single deck.

Flush: Any five cards of the same suit, but not in sequence.
A flush is a hand where all of the cards are the same suit, if each card you have is all one suit, such as 3 of Clubs, 5 of Clubs, 6 of Clubs, 8 of Clubs and King of Clubs, then you have a Flush. Don't be tricked into thinking that all five cards are the same color. The high card determines the winner if two people have a flush.

Straight: Five cards in sequence, but not in the same suit.
A straight is a hand where all of the cards are consecutive. There is no continuative quality to this poker hand a straight cannot wrap around meaning it is not a straight if you have a Queen, King, Ace, Two or Three. Standard poker rules state that in the case of more than one straight, the higher straight wins, In case of straights that tie, the pot is split.
http://www.pokercs.com/_760a6ecd645...373d858df4117f/
Three of a Kind: Three cards of the same value.
Any three cards with the same value (eg. a 6 of Clubs, a 6 of Spades or a 6 of Diamonds) is considered to be three of a kind. The highest set of three cards wins.

Two Pair: Two seperate pairs (eg. 4,4,Q,Q).
Two sets of two cards of equal value constitute a hand that has two pairs. As usual the pair with the higher value is used to determine the winner of a tie.

Pair:
One pair of two equal value cards constitutes a pair.

http://www.pokercs.com/_760a6ecd645...373d858df4117f/
High Card:
When the hand you are left with has no pairs, is not a straight or a flush then it's relative value is determined by the highest value card. When two players have no pairs, straight, or flush the winner of the tie is determined by the highest value card in the hand. If the highest cards are a tie then the tie is broken by the second highest card. Suits are not used to break ties.
