EDIT JULY 2005: Only Acropolis now exists (all the others now redirect). It is currently using the Playtech platform. It is not recommended anymore.

Stanley Leisure originally took over Acropolis Casino and Avalon Casino- acropoliscasinos.com

The above casinos originally used Intermedia Software but they now use 'Stanley Instants' software.

Stanley Leisure now also have their own casinos:

Crockfords Casino - crockfordscasinos.com, crockfordscasino.com
Stanley Casino - stanleycasinos.com, stanleycasino.com
Star City Casino - starcitycasinos.com (closed since 26th January and now redirects to Stanley Casino)

Other sites: Stanley Instants - stanleyinstants.com (mostly non-casino games)

Software: Proprietary
License: Dominica

Stanley Leisure plc is the largest casino operator in Great Britain with 37 provincial casinos and four in London, including the prestigious world-renowned Crockfords. Stanley Leisure is also the fourth largest operator of licensed betting offices in the British Isles, with a portfolio of over 600 shops trading under the Stanley Racing brand and the new Stanleybet brand. This latter brand reflects the change in emphasis towards a more broadly-based betting offer, and is currently being rolled out across the licensed betting office estate. The Company has pursued a focused policy of expanding its betting and gaming divisions through organic growth and a steady acquisition programme. This expansion strategy is still very much alive today as Stanley Leisure continues to be an acquisitive company and is regarded as one of the companies best placed to take advantage of the forthcoming deregulation of the gaming and betting industries.

Stanley Leisure is the largest casino operator in Great Britain with 41 casinos, 37 in the provinces and four in London, including the prestigious world-renowned Crockfords. Since entering the British casino market in 1976, Stanley Casinos has pursued a policy of acquiring casinos from both private operators and public companies. Stanley Leisure has improved these casinos through the introduction of improved management and various refurbishment and extension initiatives. In a number of cases, casinos have been relocated to larger, purpose built premises – for example, Leith in Edinburgh and the Circus casino in central Manchester which opened on 22 May 2002. Stanley Leisure recently opened the UK's largest casino at Star City in Birmingham.

London Casinos

Stanley Leisure operates four clubs in London: Crockfords, The Colony Club, The Mint and Palm Beach.

Crockfords

Crockfords is situated in Curzon Street, Mayfair and is one of the most exclusive casinos in London, catering especially for international players.

The Colony Club

The Colony Club adjoins the Metropolitan Hotel in Hertford Street, Mayfair and is targeted at middle to upper end market players.

The Mint

Located on the Cromwell Road in South Kensington, the Mint is essentially a provincial style club with a London address.

The Palm Beach

The Palm Beach casino is a well-established, popular mid-market casino in Mayfair.

Provincial Casinos

The Company operates 37 provincial casinos.

The latest additions to our casino estate include:
- Two casinos in Plymouth and Torquay acquired in 2001;
- Two casinos acquired in Brighton and Luton in 2002
- Five casinos acquired from the Tower Casino Group in 2002, located in Reading, Blackpool, Derby and Birmingham (2);

The Circus, Manchester

On 22 May 2002 Stanley Leisure opened its new casino, The Circus in central Manchester. This 33,000 square feet casino is one of the first casinos in Great Britain to provide some newly permitted games (see below) to its members. This illustrates Stanley Leisure's leadership in product innovation. The Circus casino is perfectly placed to benefit from forthcoming deregulation.

Recent Casino Opening

Stanley's Star City Casino, the UK's largest, was opened on 22 November 2003 with a star studded Grand Opening and is the latest addition to Stanley Leisure's casino portfolio. The 70,000 sq ft casino, which was granted its licence on 10th July 2002, is arranged over several main and mezzanine floors, has 40 gaming tables, 200 slot machines, 80 automated games and employs around 300 people.

Star City has the largest licensed table gaming floor in the UK and is ideally placed to take full advantage of the most recent DCMS proposals for large-scale casinos. At greater than 10,000 sq ft of table gaming area, Star City Casino would qualify for unlimited numbers of Gaming Machines The new Birmingham site, which is a destination leisure casino, has a dedicated Entertainment Suite featuring a host of well known stars and acts, 2 restaurants and 4 bars. This complements Stanley Leisure's previous acquisitions in Birmingham, announced in July 2002,of the Midland Wheel, a premium-end casino and the China Palace, a mid-market casino.

Online Gaming

Crockfordscasinos.com
Utilising the world famous Crockfords brand name, Stanley launched crockfordscasinos.com in 2002. Crockfordscasinos.com is a bespoke online casino designed specifically to replicate as much as possible of “the Crockfords experience” and aimed at the higher end of the online casino market.

Acropoliscasinos.com
Stanley also continues to offer online gaming via its earlier acquired online casinos “Acropolis” and “Avalon” via acropoliscasinos.com

Recent Developments

Since 13 May 2002 the gaming industry has been permitted by the Gaming Board to provide new games. Four interesting and appealing new games have been introduced into Stanley Casinos:
- Sic Bo (a dice game popular throughout the Far East and Australia)
- The Wheel of Fortune (a vertical spinning wheel)
- Three Card Poker
- Progressive Casino Stud Poker, which provides the opportunity for players to win a linked jackpot.

Aberdeeny's review for Crockfords
====================================

The customer support staff is very friendly at Crockford's Casino and almost always responds within minutes to any emails sent. I was also fortunate enough to cashout twice here and on both occasions my cashout was received within 30 minutes. I did not have to go through the hassle of faxbackforms, driver's license, etc.

The only downsides to Crockford's is the amount of time it takes to download the casino and the limited number of games offered.

Couldn't ask for nicer people however, I like a little more variety of games. I have participated in their tournaments however, I usually get bored and quit.

Crockfords Casino has been removed from the Top Casinos list due to a move to Playtech software. I've also removed their banners. They may be advertised in the future as a safe casino to play at, even without being in the Top Casinos list, but they haven't even notified me that the links to the casino don't work any more.

Playtech software powered casinos do not qualify to be featured in the Top Casinos list at the moment mainly due to some problems with its original licensee, Club Dice.

Crockfords and the related casino sites were down for maintenance when I was checking the above links but they work fine now. They are still using the original software but they have changed the software at Acropolis Casino to Playtech. Crockfords may eventually migrate to Playtech too.

Crockfords no longer offer any sign up bonuses. Everything is the same as before apart from that, so I will put the links back up.

sunspun's review for Crockfords Casino
====================================

I couldn't play at this casino. For some reason, the games played excruciatingly slooooow, so slow it really was not playable. I asked them about it, but they said they didnt know what the problem was and couldn't do a thing about it. I don't have a problem with any other casino, and my computer more than meets the technical requirements, so i don't know why it was that way.

Quite recently all the casinos in this group now redirect to just Acropolis. I honestly don't know what happened and the whole change was totally mishandled. I don't recommend this group at all now.

The information on the old Crockfords sites were totally outdated and misleading and weren't updated right up until they finally disappeared. Their affiliate program was also constantly having the terms changed and was being advertised for months when it wasn't even operational. I also have no idea why they are now only operating Acropolis instead of Crockfords.
