evety time i log in or log out or try and access the forum index i keep getting a strange black screen with german words all over it is it just me??? or is everyone getting the same thing .have we been hacked?????

| I think it's just a security flaw that lets them replace files on the server. I have backups of everything anyway, plus I don't think the database has been accessed. I fixed a couple of problems since it happened so it probably won't happen again. |

A few months after this happened there was another hacking incident (last month). I didn't comment on it because this time it was beyond my control as it was the server that had a security problem and not the actual site. I couldn't mention it earlier as I wasn't sure if they had fixed the problem and they were in silence over it. If anyone mentioned the incident on this site, then a hacker could easily target this site because the server was insecure and they could easily guess what the vulnerability was.
There were over 100 sites on the server at the time and they were all affected so the hacker wasn't targeting this site in particular so didn't try to do anything like accessing the database. All they did was replace the homepages of all the sites and this forum could still be accessed.
A problem was that they tried to infect computers (with non-updated Windows) with some sort of trojan called bl4ck and although not very serious, you should check to see if you have any files named that on your computer. You would have had to confirm a download to be infected properly (don't worry if you have a zero length file called bl4ck as it means you weren't infected). |
