This is the first Newsletter I sent in September (newer forums members won't have received it):

Quote:

Faircasinos.com Newsletter no.1
====================

Addiction to gambling is an important issue not yet addressed on the site. I have chosen to send this out to all members of our forum and would appreciate your suggestions.

Proposals
======

* Maximum of 3 deposit transactions a day per player at a casino. Gamblers often lose track of their deposits otherwise.

* Low weekly limit on instant deposit methods, especially credit cards (mainly used by UK players). Higher limits can be requested by email.

* Genuine Casino Policy of detecting and closing compulsive gambling accounts. Although a sensitive issue for casinos, proven compulsive gamblers should have their money refunded.

* Easy self exclusion from a casino. This can be either permanent or for a period determined by the player.

I have the belief that many online casinos are irresponsible and set deposit limits so high that it negates their use. Whatever the ethical issues, in the long it will also hurt the casinos if they don't prevent players from quickly spending all their savings (sometimes spending on credit which is arguably worse). They may enjoy more profits in the short term if they don't take this issue seriously, but they will be blacklisted here if they don't!

September 3rd 2003

Please send a PM to FairCasinos in the forum or reply to this email if you would prefer not to receive further newsletters.

No-one has contacted me about this yet and I thought you might want to discuss it on here.

Interestingly, last month and this month a referred player to the Riverbelle casino has been spending a lot of money (spent about $6k so far). Hopefully he is wealthy and has a lot of disposable income but he could just as easily be addicted. There is no way I can tell and can't even contact him unless he joined this forum and wants to post a message about it. All I have from my stats is the numbers.

You might have noticed I wrote something about it in the second paragraph of the 'free cash' section on the faircasinos.com homepage.

Bottom line Sirius is you are not wrong.

There are limits to deposits apparently but obviously higher than you would think is right.

I have seen reports of casino's allowing more than they say is allowed.

Hell Sirius William Hills did so and tried to ChANGE THE RULES ACCORDINGLY AFTER THE FACT- you show me the portal that thinks they got what it takes to realistically take them on...

I couldn't agree more with you! It is so easy to gamble over your head online! What is to stop someone from depositing more money than they have into their Neteller accounts with an Instant Deposit?

I do believe that on-line casinos should have lower limits per person/day and that more of them should have a link on their page for help for problem gamblers. Mind you - there are so many casinos that if someone wanted to go over their limit they could just choose a different site.

There are limits in place as such already but are they adhered to anyway?

Who would police this Sirius?

I used to spend alot more on gambling than I do now, as my circumstances changed, I moved to a new home and had other obligations. I noticed that for a short time after my "downsizing", i received offers almost every day, for large bonuses and "come back" offers. That lasted about a month or two, then dropped off. If I HAD had a problem gambling, and was trying to stop, it would have been alot harder with the flood of tempting offers I received.

This is a really good topic!..I often wonder how many people spend far too much gambling and do without the basic necessities. I love to gamble, but would never spend my house payment gambling. icon_smile.gif

The January revenue was $1,381.83 and $1250 was from the same Riverbelle player I mentioned at the start of this thread (I'm guessing this, as it was the only active player for the Riverbelle that month). The player is still playing again this month and although the commission was negative at the start (he was winning at the start of the month) it is now positive again but at just below $150.

So since mid-December this player must have lost over $8k by now.

This player has recouped about $2k since his low point. The commission is well into the negative again which means he or she is winning.

I play online poker and I am up a few hundred dollars.
If I started to lose there would be no way I would continue to play for real money.
You can play with the funny money and still have fun.

If you are losing money, you should quit!

Very interesting topic... I believe a major problem lies with the self-exclusion policies of a number of casinos.

Slotland, for example, when you write to leave actually offer you money for your 'reasons for quitting'.... Hmm.... or to ensure that you have a winning session to make you stay (believe it, it happens). Even then if you say you want to leave they then offer you a cash bonus for free on signing up again... yeah... great if you are an addicted gambler!

Another casino (which I won't mention because I am friends with the owner) does close your account on request. The problem is, if you just say you want to play again they open the account right back up again.

The only casinos which I have been truely impressed of is the Casino-on-Net group. I wrote to them once saying "please close my account because I've been spending too much". They did. But around 6 months later I tried to play at Reef club.. although I was able to sign up, within hours my account was closed because I had asked for my Casino-on-Net account to be closed. Same story for their Pacific Poker. Now - I said to them "that was then, this is now, let me gamble" but they said the time between then and now was not long enough and that I should wait at least 6-12 months before contacting them again to have my accounts reopened because they wanted to ensure sufficient time had passed... i.e. they wanted to ensure I didn't have a problem. I was slightly annoyed but also admired their desire to honour my original email request.

But in the long run, casinos don't want to keep you out. And I do believe many of the 'self lock out' policies are simply show... same as the 'pretty' gambaholic logos that float at the very bottom of casino's web pages...

Love to hear more on this topic - very interesting indeed.

Ben.

I love to gamble but im on a budget I have used almost every way to purchase but the only place ive ever cashed out is shark casino and I had only deposited 25 dollars at the time I won on a 10 dollar no deposit promo so the contests in forums really helps me to keep my spending down!

I remember you being quite complementary about Slotland in another thread but this comment was a bit worrying. I wanted to test if this was some sort of policy of theirs and asked two people I contacted from a recent thread on Casinomeister about Slotland who weren't very happy with the payouts and were losing to request that Slotland close their accounts. One of them has done this and this was the reply they received:

Quote:

Hello,

I hereby request the closure of my account [username removed].

Please let me know as soon as this request was processed.

regards

[name removed]

and recieved the following answer:

Dear [name removed],

Your account [username removed] has been closed and E-mail address removed.
Thank you for playing our games!

I have also asked him now to email them again to request that they make sure he can't open another account because he has been losing too much.

They don't seem to have a player exclusion policy! He also asked if he could be prevented from opening another account:

Dear [name removed],

You are absolutely welcome.

Unfortunately, that is not possible, sorry.

Please, let me know, if I can be of further assistance.

I don't understand what the problem is here.

Slotland is a gambling casino, they make money when patrons lose in there casino, just like every other casino on the net, on land, on a ship etc. etc.

Slotland and every other casino are not our personal money managers.
If someone has a gambling problem where they can't stop, it's not up to the casino to babysit them.

If one casino does stop them from gambling, and the person has a gambling problem, who is going to tell the next casino this person runs too that they have a problem?

There is only one solution to this problem the person has to want, and seek out help himself.

Course this is just my opinion, and we all know what that's worth LOL!

Unfortunately this is all to common even in Land based. You can exclude yourself from the casino but your picture isnt posted at the entry for security. So if you come in who knows remember the woman on Good Morning america who was suing a land based because she kept going after she had herself banned and blamed the casino.

The awful truth is the person has to want help. Since I am the ex wife of a heavy hitter gambler I know all to well how this goes.

Oh I believe it is very easy to over spend. I think we all set out to spend a limited amount and then we lose. Well you know what happens next we spend a little more to make up for the loss. which begins a vicious cycle.
I have helped myself by cashing out smaller increments , keeps my neteller funded. Wont ever hit a huge pot but those 100 and 150 cashout keep me playing
