Please ensure you have cookies enabled in your browser or you may have problems staying logged in when you navigate some features of the site!
If you don't have cookies enabled or are not logged in, the forum will assign and append a random sessionID on every link to keep track of you, which is necessary when you log in. It looks something like this at the end of all links:
?sid=2982b757dc6e582753677114e57e6061 (not a real one!).
If you don't have anything like that when you are logged in, it is good because it means your browser is accepting cookies (the forum doesn't bother with creating sessionID's if your cookies are working and you are logged in). If you still see the session ID when you are logged in, it means there is a problem with your cookie settings. Unfortunately, some parts of the site will not carry the sessionID around (I will fix this eventually) so staying logged in is not very reliable without cookies working!
SessionID's are basically created for each different IP address that accesses the site so if you have some strange connection or proxy connection to the internet that keeps changing the IP address, then you will have problems staying logged in because it also checks that your IP address is the same even if you have cookies enabled! The AOL browser seems to have this IP address problem, so use Internet Explorer instead (which is the browser this site was designed for). I've done a workaround for AOL or connections that create small changes in your IP address, but it isn't perfect.
Another important point is never to post a link that includes your sessionID because someone could potentially use it to pretend to be you in the forum (although the sessionsID's expire after a while and they would also need to know your IP address to be able to spoof it). |
